Southern Oregon Local Activities & Attractions

Southern Oregon is a favorite destination for its many and varied outdoor and cultural attractions. Find all of these and many more near the Chateau at the Oregon Caves.

Oregon Caves National Monument
Just a few steps from the lobby of the Chateau lies the entrance to the Oregon Caves and your ticket to a tour of wonder. Bring warm clothing. The Caves stay at a chilly 42 degrees Fahrenheit (5.5 degrees Celsius) all summer!

Old Growth Forest
The Chateau sits nestled in the midst of an old growth forest high atop the Siskiyou Mountains; enjoy the peace and quiet of these ancient whispering woods both day and night.

Hiking & Camping
Spreading out in all directions, four loop trails at the Monument offer a range of hiking opportunities for all ages and fitness levels. The Big Tree Loop climbs past one of the largest Douglas Fir in Oregon to a flower-filled ridge. Caves Creek and Grayback campgrounds are located on the way to the Chateau.

Siskiyou Field Institute
Explore the unique natural history of Southwestern Oregon and Northern California's rugged Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains with the Siskiyou Field Institute. Dedicated naturalists lead you in discovering the unique geology, flora and fauna of this region. There's something for everyone: wildflower illustration, bird watching, rafting trips, youth camps, and more.

Kalmiopsis Wilderness
Besides being a place of great botanical interest, the Kalmiopsis Wilderness is also one of the most unusual and complex geological areas of our country.

Illinois River Valley Wineries
Enjoy wine tasting at our award-winning wineries, including Foris, Bridgeview, Deer Creek and Windridge.
